We will be more direct about Bulldogs than about any other breed, because we treat the consequences weekly: this is the most medically burdened breed we see, and anyone considering one deserves the unvarnished version. The flat face means most Bulldogs breathe with effort — snoring is not quirky, it is airway obstruction audible from across the room — and heat above the mid-20s°C is a genuine mortality risk. The skin folds infect without weekly care, the eyes and eyelids have their own problem list, most litters arrive by C-section, and the breed's lifespan runs short. Insurance from eight weeks old is, in our view, non-optional, and so is choosing health-focused breeding with graded breathing assessments where available. Here is the other side, and it is real: temperamentally, Bulldogs are magnificent — patient, hilarious, devoted, wonderful with children, content in any apartment, and demanding almost nothing athletically.
